BORN: Rather unexpectedly, as this 6.5 no-cam edition from David Ezzy goes against his longstanding support of camber sails for free-riding.
BUZZ: Low-end power, stable and fast with wave-sail durability.
OUR TEST: A favorite, largely for its camber-like power, which offered ample juice for all sailor sizes, and for gliding through monster lulls. It's draft-forward design felt "race-sail stable" according to several testers, who remarked that its speed was impressive considering the sail's light, easy-riding, forgiving nature. By far the friendliest sail to rig and tune, thanks to it's brilliantly conceived guides.
CAVEATS: Nothing glaring. When comparing it to the Sailworks Hucker 6.6, most testers found the Ezzy lighter in hand, and said its power sensation was more relaxed for cruise-control riding.
WHO WINS: Any free-riders, flat-water blasters, and people who want a hassle-free, quick-rigging, powerful 6.5 that's tough.

I finally got out today after about a week of lousy wind. 85 degrees and 25 knot winds so I left the office and headed out. I took the 7.0 Freeride. Wow, I love that sail. It started to pick up so I really rigged it flat and I was amazed at how well it handled. We had some gusts to 30 knots but I felt fine, and the board loved that sail. I really notice the difference with the Ezzy — responds well to rigging, and very well made. Plus there are lots of nice extra touches — sail bag that is actually worth a crap, for example. A great sail and a great match with that board and wind.

My 6.0 Ezzy Free Ride is great! When overpowered, downhauling just one inch made all the difference in the world as to whether I could continue to sail with it or not. I never felt as though the sail was being ripped out of my hands. I want to say it's very will balanced and if rigged properly it feels really good with great control.

The 2008 Ezzy Freeride has the forward, deep-draft profile of our 2008 Ezzy Wave SE.
