The Amazing Ezzy Sails and Masts performance in HOOD RIVER - THE GORGE!!!

Fall is coming
Posted by Russ 17 Sep, 2008
The Gorge season is winding down, and people are starting to part ways until next summer. I just got back from a trip to San Carlos, Baja. I went down with Casey Hauser, Ingrid Larouche, Wyatt Miller, and Josh Sampiero. We sailed 7 days straight, with conditions getting better each day. It started out with light wind, schlog and catch small waves, and ended in powered 4.2 winds and mast-high waves peeling down the point. We all had a great time, improving our skills in the waves. I don't have any pictures downloaded yet, but I will post them soon.

I am getting ready to head back to Maui for the winter season, so there is plenty of excitement for me to look forward to. Here is a shot of my last good session in the Gorge. It was a big day at Arlington and my friend Courtney took the shot. I was on a 3.5 and going for a big stalled out back loop. I hope to get some more of those soon, in Maui.

Ever hear of Dire Straits? Meet Guy Fletcher
Posted by Tim 17 Sep, 2008
We just got a great email from Guy Fletcher from the UK. Guy is a brilliant musician who works with the likes of Mark Knopfler among others. He was part of the band "Dire Straits".

Guy learned to windsurf on the island of Montserrat, which was once home to one of the worlds finest recording studios (AIR Studios). Lots of other musicians shared their love of windsurfing and music on the island, like Sting. Sadly, hurricane Hugo and later volcanic activity shut things down.

Guy writes the following:
"Anyway, I just wanted to say that your sails absolutely rock. It took me a while to get used to the '08's but I have to say they are SO powerful and controllable. Now I have a couple of '09 Panthers and I can't wait to really test them out."

At home this month on the 6.9 Ezzy wave SE in about 16 knots of warm South Westerly and ducking it
..no way
yes that's rightyou can't jump that high off that small chop. It IS me though. (the actual jump was probably around 8-10 ft.)

We look forward to hearing more from Guy!

The three siblings: James, Tim and Simon Cox have decided to make the challenge of sailing around the Isle of White to raise some money for the British Herat Foundation. A noble cause to motivate the guys to make this difficult challenge happen.
Coronary Heart Disease is recognised as the biggest killer in the UK and many heart related illnesses can be prevented through lifestyle changes in relation to diet and levels of exercise. Outdoor sports like windsurfing are a great way of keeping the bodies health in check so publicising the benefits makes great sense. One of the brothers has also experienced an episode of blood clotting, so the work that the British Heart Foundation does driving forward medical technology in this area is of personal appreciation

Simon, Tim and James are all seasoned windsurfers, and James a regular competitor on the UKWA wave sailing tour. When asked what their motivation was to circum-navigate the Isle of Wight together, Simon said:

"We grew up and learnt to windsurf at Hengistbury Head, so each morning we'd wake up and check the Isle of Wight on the horizon for wind sign - it's always been a consideration that it would be a great trip to challenge ourselves with. Now we are fortunate enough to be living in the same area again, and after regularly windsurfing together it didn't take long to come to a joint decision that it had to be done. The fact that all three of us windsurf and are passionate about the sport provides us with quite a unique opportunity to enjoy the challenge as a team. It's going to be a tough trip and we are going to have to cover a heck of a lot of ground, but there's no better team to do it with than my brothers"

Over the past few months they have been planning and training for the journey around their own work commitments, trying to get everything drilled down with precision from support boat, to equipment and peak fitness. They are well aware that if even the smallest thing goes wrong, it could be disastrous for the trip. With their trip planned for the next solid few days of wind, all eyes are firmly on Big Salty weather forecasts to plan the necessary time off work.
